The African Development Bank (www.AfDB.org) has appointed Aida Ngir Ngom as Director of Private Sector Development. Her appointment will be effective from February 1, 2024.
Mr. Ngom, a Senegalese national, is an experienced development finance banker with over 20 years’ experience in private sector creation and development, investment banking, corporate and project finance, particularly in the infrastructure sector.
Her experience includes working with both the private sector and government, building strategic partnerships with industry leaders, and collaborating with other multilateral financial institutions and regulatory bodies.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Ngom served as Chief Investment Officer in the bank’s private sector division and then Manager of the Energy Financial Solutions division within the Power, Energy, Climate Change and Green Growth Complex. She played a key role in facilitating the deployment of innovative financial products and products as a path to delivering ground-breaking infrastructure projects and facilitating Africa’s just energy transition. Ngom also serves on the advisory board of a private equity fund in the renewable energy and infrastructure sector.
Mr. Ngom joined the Bank in 2007 as Chief Credit Risk Officer in the Credit Division. In 2013 she was appointed Chief Investment Officer for Public-Private Partnerships and Infrastructure in the Bank’s Private Sector Division. Here she played a key role in strengthening the Bank’s processes and procedures and also participated in various governance bodies, including the Non-Sovereign Working Group of the Bank Assets and Liabilities Committee. As Chief Investment Officer, she was instrumental in groundbreaking and groundbreaking transactions that provided targeted financial solutions for projects and clients, including the bank’s largest private sector syndicated loan that mobilized $1 billion for clients. She was also part of various task forces, including those that established Africa 50 and brought catalytic support to key economic sectors across the continent.
Prior to joining the Bank, Mr. Ngom worked as an investment specialist and credit officer in both origination and credit functions at various international and regional commercial banks including Citibank in East Africa, Southern Africa, West Africa and France and Commercial Bank of Mauritius.
She graduated from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh with a Master’s degree in Business Organization and a Master of Science in Banking and Finance.
