Cassava Technologies has announced plans to build Africa’s first AI factory, a powerful and highly secure data center facility powered by NVIDIA AI computing technology.

The plan, announced on Monday, will provide African businesses, governments and researchers with access to cutting-edge AI computing power to help them develop smarter AI products, streamline operations and remain competitive in a rapidly changing world.

We will provide the supercomputers and software needed to train AI while keeping your data within Africa’s borders.

The company plans to deploy NVIDIA accelerated computing and AI software using the NVIDIA Cloud Partner (NCP) reference architecture in its South African data center by June 2025, with plans to expand to other data center facilities in Egypt, Kenya, Morocco and Nigeria.

Technology company AI Factory leverages its pan-African high-speed, ultra-low-latency fiber optic network and sustainable data centers to deliver AI as a Service (AIaaS).

Cassava’s world-class data centers are designed to be energy efficient and use less power to power AI computing workloads.

NVIDIA GPU-based supercomputers power AI Factory, enabling faster AI model training, fine-tuning, and advanced inference capabilities. As NCP, Cassava aims to be the first to bring these high-speed computing platforms to Africa and play a key role in the continent’s AI ecosystem.

Cassava AI Factory ensures that businesses and researchers have access to the AI computing power they need to scale, increase productivity, and power innovation. This secure, high-performance AI factory will enable African businesses and governments to develop local solutions to local challenges, and enable Africans to build, train, scale, and deploy AI in a secure environment that complies with global and regional regulations.

“Building the digital infrastructure for the AI economy is a priority if Africa is to make the most of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Our AI Factory will provide the infrastructure to scale this innovation and help African businesses, startups and researchers do the most We give you access to cutting-edge AI infrastructure to turn your bold ideas into real-world breakthroughs, and now you don’t have to look beyond Africa to make it happen.” Masiyiwa said. “Working with NVIDIA will give us the advanced computing capabilities needed to drive AI innovation in Africa while strengthening Africa’s digital independence.”

“AI is creating opportunities for Africa by helping innovators solve their biggest challenges in agriculture, healthcare, energy, financial services and many other industries,” said Jaap Zuiderveld, Vice President, EMEA, NVIDIA. “As an NVIDIA Cloud Partner, Cassava provides essential infrastructure and software to help pioneering companies and organizations accelerate AI development to drive innovation across the continent.”
