Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of G&D Buildings and Engineering Limited, Mr. Olayinka Alade, stressed that innovation and resilience will be central to shaping Africa’s engineering and infrastructure landscape.

Alade spoke on the future of engineering on the continent, highlighting Africa’s vast opportunities in construction, power, infrastructure and technology. He noted that progress depends on indigenous professionals who integrate global standards with resilience, innovation and a strong work ethic.

Reflecting on his career, Alade said working with expatriates in Nigeria’s engineering, construction, power and oil and gas sectors exposed him to international best practices and emphasized the importance of discipline, precision and innovative thinking in project execution.

He explained that G&D started in 2018 as G&D Realtors Limited, focusing on real estate development and real estate services. Actual project participation has revealed that successful real estate development requires robust engineering systems, high-quality construction, and reliable infrastructure.

This recognition led to the establishment of G & D Buildings and Engineering Limited in 2019, expanding the company into construction, civil engineering and infrastructure development.

“We realized that delivering quality real estate requires more than buildings; it requires strong engineering systems, reliable infrastructure and innovative thinking,” said Alade.

He added that the company invests in young, dynamic professionals across the built environment, including architects, surveyors, contractors, civil engineers and energy professionals, prioritizing continued professional development.

With our growing capabilities, G&D is now focused not only on building projects, but also on designing sustainable systems that support communities and foster long-term economic growth.

“We don’t just build structures; we apply innovative engineering solutions that improve performance, efficiency and sustainability,” Alade explained.

To broaden his vision, he introduced a G&D consortium that brings together construction, engineering, energy, oil and gas, maritime and hospitality sectors under one strategy. This structure allows the organization to expand its influence while contributing to the development of Africa’s industry and infrastructure.

Mr. Alade has a background in applied physics, including electronic and electrical systems, and believes that engineering needs to evolve beyond technical structures to solve societal challenges.

“Engineering is a tool for innovation. When combined with resilience and commitment, it becomes a powerful force for solving problems and building the future,” he said.

He concluded that the future of engineering in Africa will be shaped by professionals who think creatively, work tirelessly and are ready to apply innovative solutions to the continent’s infrastructure and development challenges.
