Legal, Contracts and Local Content Manager Fatou Diop and Malcolm Watson, Managing Director of offshore oil and gas services company MODEC Senegal, will be speakers at the upcoming MSGBC Oil and Gas Power 2025 Conference and Exhibition.

This year’s participation, to be held in Dakar from December 8-10, will provide insight into Senegal’s first offshore oil development and the operational, technical and regional content strategies supporting the project.

Explore opportunities, foster partnerships and remain at the forefront of the oil, gas and power sector in the MSGBC region. To secure your participation in the MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 conference, please visit www.msgbcoilgasandpower.com. To become a sponsor or participate as a representative, please contact sales@energycapitalpower.com.

MODEC Senegal, operated by global energy company Woodside Energy with the participation of Senegal’s national oil company Petrosen, plays a central role in the development of the Sangomar oil field, which achieved first oil production in June 2024. The field is located approximately 100 km south of Dakar at a depth of approximately 780 meters and represents Senegal’s entry into commercial oil production. The first stage of development will involve approximately 230 million barrels of crude oil.

MODEC Senegal’s scope spans the entire life cycle of the FPSO unit FPSO Leopold Sedar Sengal, from engineering and construction support to long-term operation and maintenance. The FPSO, a converted very large crude oil carrier, has a production capacity of 100,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd), 130 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, water injection capacity of 145,000 barrels per day, and storage capacity of 1.3 million barrels of crude oil. It is designed to accommodate future expansion, including gas exports and tiebacks from nearby reservoirs.

MODEC’s contribution also includes the supply of a complex external turret mooring system through engineering consultant SOFEC, sea commissioning, and ongoing operation and maintenance managed locally by MODEC Senegal. The initial term of the operation and maintenance engagement is 10 years, with the possibility of extension.

At this year’s event, both executives will be well placed to discuss MODEC Senegal’s commitment to local content, focusing on training programs, skills development and employment opportunities for Senegalese professionals. Partnerships with companies such as Axess Group are helping to build local engineering capabilities to support the Sangomar project and future Senegalese offshore developments.

“MODEC Senegal’s participation in MSGBC Oil, Gas Power 2025 will highlight the region’s growing offshore oil sector and showcase its world-class operational expertise. Participants will gain valuable insight into Senegal’s first offshore development, including technical, operational and local content strategies,” said Sandra Jeque, Events and Projects Director at Energy Capital & Power.
