Africa’s path towards sustainable growth is shaped not only by bold public initiatives but also by the quiet and persistent efforts of institutions, leaders and innovators working behind the scenes. These silent champions are driving the continent’s infrastructure modernization and energy transition, building strong foundations through strategies and partnerships, spearheading the development of resilient facilities, and advancing renewable solutions that empower both communities and industry. Their efforts reflect a deeper story. It is steady, pragmatic, often understated but essential progress to unlock Africa’s long-term prosperity. By combining strategic foresight and operational excellence, we ensure that Africa’s transformation is not just envisioned, but made tangible.

Ghias Nicola is one of these silent contributors who has built a reputation as one of Africa’s leading voices in infrastructure development and management. Over the past two decades, he has not only reimagined facilities and energy services across sub-Saharan Africa, but also created opportunities for European and African companies to collaborate and co-create Africa-centric solutions for sustainable growth.

As Managing Director of Energy Services at CFAO Infrastructure, Nicholas leads a team focused on helping African industries transition towards cleaner and more efficient energy use. His experts work with manufacturers and industrial operators to reduce carbon emissions by raising awareness of energy consumption, implementing smarter control strategies, and migrating from high-energy systems to modern, high-efficiency alternatives.

    Expanding Alpha Mead across Africa

During his tenure as Head of MEA Development at Alpha Mead Group, Nicolas spearheaded the company’s expansion into over 20 strategic countries across the African geographic region. His leadership has not only expanded Alpha Mead’s reach, but also strengthened its role as a leading player in facility management and infrastructure solutions across the continent.

This impressive expansion has earned Alpha Mead Group recognition as one of Africa’s Inspirational Companies by the London Stock Exchange Group. The award highlights the company’s role in driving innovation, growth and sustainable infrastructure across the continent, and its achievements are closely tied to Nicholas’ vision and leadership.

Nicholas holds a master’s degree. in Development and Heritage Management from the University of Rouen, France. He further strengthened his academic and professional qualifications with a DBA in International Business from Horizon University in Paris. His pursuit of advanced research underscores his dedication to combining academic insight with practical leadership to Africa’s development challenges.

    build a bridge between continents

Nicola’s career has always been about collaboration. In partnership with local and international chambers of commerce, we have facilitated several partnerships between European companies and African organizations, opening the door to joint ventures, technology transfer and shared innovation. These collaborations have enabled African industry to benefit from European expertise, while providing European partners with access to rapidly expanding African markets.

“Real progress comes when we build together, with mutual respect. Africa needs infrastructure, not aid,” Nicholas often emphasizes at industry forums. Through this perspective, he frames infrastructure not just as a technological pursuit, but as a powerful platform for collaboration across continents.

    A career spanning important fields

Nicholas’ professional journey traverses oil and gas, real estate, critical infrastructure, and renewable energy. This diverse background has given him a unique perspective from which to understand Africa’s development challenges and opportunities. Whether managing energy services, optimizing facilities, or guiding industrial players through modernization, Nicholas has consistently delivered results that strengthen Africa’s economic backbone.

At Alpha Mead Facilities, Nicholas oversaw international operations and secured sustainable infrastructure solutions across Africa. At African Star Energy Services, he led engineering and construction services with a focus on portfolio diversification and spend optimization. His leadership at Tarklish Technologies bridged software engineering and infrastructure, integrating digital solutions with physical asset management. Founder of www.abima.biz: Beyond his corporate leadership, Nicholas is also the founder of ABIMA (Africa Business and Innovation Management Agency), an editorial and consulting company. ABIMA releases its Africa Investment Outlook to support companies seeking to invest in the region. By providing insight and advisory services, ABIMA has become a trusted partner for organizations navigating Africa’s dynamic business environment.

Chairman of the Board and Entrepreneurial Vision

Nicholas is also Chairman of the Board of Xenon Projects Limited, an oil services company with operations in Nigeria, Uganda and Ivory Coast. His leadership will strengthen Xenon’s role in supporting Africa’s oil and gas industry with innovative service solutions.

Additionally, he is the co-founder of Nicolas Green Limited, a group of companies developing alternative energy solutions in Nigeria, Ghana and East Africa. The venture reflects his commitment to drive Africa’s energy transition by reducing dependence on fossil fuels and investing in clean, sustainable technologies that give communities reliable energy access.

    outlook

As Africa faces pressing challenges in infrastructure funding, regulatory frameworks, and sustainability, Nicola’s combination of technical expertise and strategic vision will provide a roadmap for progress. His work shows that infrastructure is more than just a physical asset: it connects economies, enables innovation, and leads Africa to a greener, more prosperous future.

Guiass Nicolas is more than just an infrastructure specialist. He is a bridge builder, an innovator and a champion of Africa’s energy transition. Through his leadership and work at www.abima.biz, he continues to shape the continent’s development story, one project, one partnership and one vision at a time.
