ALGIERS – Algeria’s Minister of State and Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines Mohamed Alkab on Monday received African Development Bank Group President Sidi Ould Tarr and a delegation from the African Development Bank Group to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between Algeria and the African Development Bank Group.

The meeting was held in the presence of Karima Baqir Tafa, Secretary of State for Mines to the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, and a number of senior officials of the Ministry.

On this occasion, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between Algeria and the African Development Bank Group, in particular in priority areas such as the development of the oil and gas industry, the valorization and processing of mineral resources, and desalination projects, as well as the financing and support of continent-wide structural projects.

Algeria’s Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines said in a statement that during the meeting, Alkab presented Algeria’s efforts to strengthen its capacity in the desalination field, as well as development programs overseen by the department in the areas of development and processing of hydrocarbons in particular, valuation of mineral resources, and manufacturing in general, as well as major projects in the development and processing of phosphates.

According to the statement, the ministers reaffirmed Algeria’s firm determination to strengthen inter-African cooperation in sustainable energy and strengthen production capacities and regional interconnections in order to support the continent’s development.

In this context, Alkab reiterated its readiness to share Algeria’s expertise in the field of hydrocarbon exploration and processing and to generalize Algeria’s experience in the distribution of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), geological exploration and geological formations, and the management of major projects at continental level. The official added that he stressed the importance of strengthening technical cooperation and exchanging experiences between Algeria and the African Development Bank, with the aim of supporting the implementation of major energy and mining projects with the necessary efficiency and effectiveness.

Mr. Sidi Ould Tah expressed his gratitude for Algeria’s development vision under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, praising the progress Algeria has achieved in many economic and social sectors and its vital regional role on the African continent.

The African Development Bank Group President also reaffirmed the Bank’s readiness to support Algeria in financing and supporting strategic projects, and praised Algeria’s promising experience in hydrocarbon development and processing, desalination, and infrastructure development. He underlined the Bank’s desire to transfer this experience to other countries on the continent and work on the development and valorization of strategic and important minerals at both local and continental levels, according to the statement.

Mr. Ould Tarr also reiterated the Group’s pride in the strong support that Algeria provides to the African Development Bank and affirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral partnerships and supporting all efforts to strengthen economic integration and joint development on the African continent.
