The MSGBC Oil, Gas and Power 2025 Conference and Exhibition will showcase the latest geoscience-driven opportunities across North West Africa’s hydrocarbon sector, on the back of record production volumes and major new investments. A series of panel discussions and presentations will highlight recent geopolitical changes and how the MSGBC region is positioned to become the next major exploration and production hub.

During the event, the conference panel “The New Global Geostrategic Transformation: Promoting Hydrocarbon Mining in North West Africa” will explore how governments are improving fiscal and regulatory conditions, promoting both offshore and greenfield land reserves, and leveraging geological intelligence to attract capital. Panelists included Mr. Rogers Beer, Executive Chairman of Africa Fortesa Corporation; Ben Sayers, GeoPartners CEO. Mr. Kemsuddin Saw Dayna, Director-General of Petroleum and Low Carbon Hydrogen, Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, Mauritania. and a senior representative of energy giant Chevron.

Complementing the panel discussion, Karina Rodríguez, Vice President of Global New Ventures at Searcher, will speak on Strategic Opportunities in Deep Sea Exploration: Where the Giants Awaits Off the Coast of Senegal. This presentation will elucidate Albian and Turonian turbidites, Cenomanian and Turonian source shales, carbonate accumulation and hydrocarbon migration pathways from the Late Jurassic to the Late Cretaceous, providing important insights into the geology of the region. As such, attendees will gain a comprehensive geoscience perspective on the MSGBC Basin, a proven mega-oil province with more than 10 billion barrels of recoverable oil equivalent, and understand how integrated ocean and onshore exploration, advanced seismic analysis, and new data initiatives are driving the next wave of investment across the region.

These discussions come as the MSGBC region looks towards the next phase of energy development following major project milestones achieved in 2024 and 2025. In Senegal, the Sangomar deepwater field will begin operations in June 2024, with the project exceeding expectations and 2025 forecasts revised to 34.5 million barrels. Mauritania and Senegal have also reached commercial operation with their Greater Tortu Amayim (GTA) project, following first LNG exports in April 2025. Looking to the future, the region is striving to advance exploration activities in an effort to maintain its growth momentum and explore new developments. Mauritania and Senegal are seeking partners to advance their respective Yakar Teranga and Bir Allah projects, and Guinea-Bissau has signed a deal with Chevron for two exploration blocks. These projects demonstrate the level of potential in the region with geological insights set to further drive exploration activities.

Multi-client seismic preparedness initiatives are de-risking exploration. Partners such as TGS, PGS and GeoPartners continue to expand their coverage, providing approximately 100,000 km of 2D data and 100,000 square kilometers of 3D data in Mauritania alone. Notable projects include the ‘Jaan’ 3D survey to fill gaps along paleo-shelf edge trends to identify ‘next SNE’ type discoveries, and advanced multi-beam and sea sheep surveys to provide physical evidence of active petroleum systems and enhance pre-drill risk assessment. Governments are promoting investments using these datasets, with Guinea-Conakry’s National Center for Seismic Data Visualization supporting a 22-block licensing round, and Mauritania preparing a 15-block offshore round focused on proven giants such as GTA and Bir Allah. As the region advances new exploration campaigns, the MSGBC Oil, Gas and Power 2025 discussion will be a key element in supporting investment decisions and encouraging new players to join the market.

“MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 panels and presentations will provide an important platform to understand how geoscience-based insights are shaping investments in North West Africa. Attendees will have unique access to the latest exploration data, regulatory updates and strategic opportunities across offshore and onshore hydrocarbon reserves,” said Sandra Jeke, events and projects director at Energy Capital & Power.

Explore opportunities, foster partnerships and remain at the forefront of the oil, gas and power sector in the MSGBC region.
