Edward Nelson-Addy (male), Head of Corporate Communications and Brand Management at Access Bank, accepted the award on behalf of the bank.

Access Bank (Ghana) PLC reaffirmed its leadership in sustainable banking by winning two prestigious awards at the 2025 Sustainability & Social Investment (SSI) Awards held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra on Friday.

The Bank was named Best Company for Employee Volunteerism and Best Company for Sustainable Lending and Investments, cementing its reputation as a purpose-driven institution committed to empowering communities and driving positive environmental and economic change.

This recognition reflects Access Bank’s long-standing investment in people-centered initiatives, community development, and innovative partnerships that support national growth. Commenting on the award, Pearl Nkrumah, Managing Director of Access Bank Ghana, said the accolade underlines the Bank’s commitment to building a more sustainable future.

“For us, sustainability is not a one-time event. It is an ongoing journey that guides how we serve our customers, support our communities and create impact. These awards reinforce the work we are doing through our employees and strategic partners,” she said.

Under its Sustainable Finance mission, Access Bank is developing a number of initiatives aimed at strengthening responsible lending practices, increasing support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and driving innovation across Africa’s financial landscape. This includes a partnership with Birmingham City University to promote green financing and capacity building for SMEs, and a collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to expand financial access for SMEs in Ghana, with a focus on women entrepreneurs. The bank has also partnered with Mastercard to introduce integrated cross-border payments solutions in key African markets, enabling individuals and businesses to send and receive international payments to and from more than 150 countries.

To further strengthen its impact on the SME ecosystem, Access Bank recently entered into a strategic partnership with DHL Express Ghana to provide local businesses with the tools and support they need to expand into global markets. This cooperation is in line with the government’s policy to accelerate the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises as a catalyst for national development and leverages the opportunities created by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

In addition to financial interventions, the Bank’s vibrant employee volunteer culture continues to drive meaningful change across Ghanaian communities. Our employees actively participate in numerous social initiatives each year, supporting programs in education, healthcare, environmental conservation, youth empowerment, and more. This initiative played a key role in the Bank receiving the Employee Volunteer Activity Award.

Access Bank Ghana remains focused on driving sustainability, promoting financial inclusion and delivering innovative banking solutions that improve the lives of individuals, businesses and communities.
