The next MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 conference and exhibition, to be held in Dakar from December 8-10, will host a high-level panel entitled “Next Generation Gas-to-Power: Accelerating Economic Growth and Energy Access”, which will focus on the region’s growing portfolio of gas-to-power projects.
This session will bring together key players driving West Africa’s gas-to-electricity transition. Mr. Riverson Oppong, CEO, Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC); Domanique Gadelle, Vice President, Early Engagement Gas, Technip Energies and Senior Representative of Senegal’s state-owned Senélec. Together, the two companies will identify the strategic role of gas in anchoring industrialization, stabilizing electricity prices and expanding universal energy access across the MSGBC region.

As the region enters a new gas era, key infrastructure milestones highlight this transformation. In early 2025, the Greater Tortu Ahmeim LNG project, operated by BP with partners Kosmos Energy, Senegal’s Petrosen and Mauritania’s SMHPM, achieved its first gas extraction, establishing the foundation for a domestic gas industry spanning Senegal and Mauritania. The success of this project has accelerated national plans to use gas for power generation and industrial development.
In Senegal, Senerec’s Cap des Biches power plant (currently being refurbished to run on natural gas) will soon become the country’s largest power plant, adding an additional 65 MW of dual-fuel generation capacity to the grid. Meanwhile, RGS SA is promoting a national gas pipeline network, a cornerstone of the government’s Emerging Senegal Plan, to give local industry and electricity producers access to cleaner and cheaper energy.
In Mauritania, the Banda Gas to Power project, supported by the World Bank, aims to harness the country’s gas resources to reduce electricity costs, increase supply and enable regional electricity trading. Downstream companies, such as COMAC, are also driving new LNG import and distribution infrastructure to support industrial demand and energy diversification.
Technip Energies contributes world-class engineering, engineering, procurement and construction expertise to major gas and power projects, and the MSGBC region is rapidly evolving as a continental hub for gas-based industrialization. As such, our upcoming panel discussions are well-positioned to provide investors, developers, and policymakers with first-hand insight into the next wave of opportunities that will transform the region’s energy landscape.
“Gas to power is the cornerstone of West Africa’s energy transformation, driving industrial growth, price stability and universal electrification. Through coordinated infrastructure development and regional cooperation, the MSGBC basin is establishing itself as a leading hub for sustainable gas-based power generation,” said Sandra Jeke, Events and Projects Director at Energy Capital & Power.
The “Next Generation Gas to Power: Driving Economic Growth and Energy Access” panel will be held in Dakar on December 9 as part of the technical program of MSGBC Oil, Gas and Power 2025.
