Tetra Maritime., a Nigerian shipowner and operator specializing in customized maritime logistics across the upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas supply chain, is recruiting for a Human Resources Director for West Africa.

Founded in 2007 (originally as Beta Shipping), Tetra Maritime has a fleet of Nigerian-flagged vessels operating throughout the African continent and is committed to providing end-to-end logistics solutions to its clients through a strategic partnership with globally acclaimed UK-based shipowner Union Maritime.

    Role overview

The West African HR Director will have extensive experience working in international organizations and will be expected to demonstrate HR leadership and execution in line with international standards, in keeping with the pace, quality and governance typical of global multinational companies. This role requires the ability and desire to operate at a world-class level, while providing a talent offering based on West Africa’s unique operational and talent realities.

The Head of WAF HR will be the primary driver of talent acquisition and staffing across West Africa, responsible for high-volume recruitment while ensuring alignment of local operational needs with global HR strategies. This role is critical to embedding talent talent within the region, building a strong local talent pipeline, and proactively contributing to global initiatives and cross-regional collaborations.

    main responsibilities

    Regional HR Leader

You will oversee all human resources operations for WAF, including recruitment (in collaboration with the London Recruitment Director), employee relations, performance management, compensation and benefits, and compliance. Serve as the primary HR contact for WAF leaders, ensuring HR support is responsive, strategic, and aligned with business objectives. Lead organizational design and workforce planning efforts in collaboration with local and regional stakeholders. Drive adoption of HR systems and digital tools such as appraisal platforms and ATS deployments. Manage local HR teams and ensure consistent delivery of HR services across WAF entities.

    Human resources and recruitment

Own end-to-end WAF recruitment, including direct sourcing, agency management, and employer branding, with clear goals for time to hire, quality of hire, and cost per hire. Personally lead hard-to-find senior hires including market mapping, headhunting, and closing. This is a hands-on role and not one that is delivered primarily through another person. We leverage our strong personal networks and relationships with top recruitment agencies and recruitment agencies in Nigeria and West Africa to quickly secure key talent. Design and execute high-volume recruitment campaigns to support rapid business growth and ensure a robust pipeline across operational, technical, and support functions. Partner with London’s recruitment leaders on processes, systems and employer brand while maintaining clear accountability to achieve WAF’s recruitment and retention goals.

    Global HR collaboration

Collaborate with the London HR team on global HR. Importantly, this role is an active senior member of the global team and WAF leader. Supports global reporting and KPI tracking to ensure WAF metrics are integrated into broader HR dashboards and governance processes. Participate in cross-regional projects such as employer branding, graduate programs, and organizational development.

    requirements

Substantial experience in HR leadership in a multinational company or a leading Nigerian company. Human resources leadership, ideally in a high-growth or asset-heavy operational environment. You have a deep understanding of both strategic HR and business execution, and are able to move between practical recruiting, day-to-day HR operations, and long-term talent planning. We have a proven track record of leading high volume specialist recruitment in West Africa (particularly Nigeria) and provide a clear example of consolidation and large-scale team expansion. Strong personal network with recruitment agencies, recruitment agencies and direct talent in Nigeria and across West Africa. There is evidence that important roles have been “opened” or closed through these networks. Demonstrated ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships across geographies. Experience with HR systems, compliance frameworks, and talent development. Collaborative thinker with the ability to influence and drive change across cultures and functions while taking personal responsibility for delivery in the WAF region.

    advantage

Competitive salary commensurate with experience. Opportunity to work in a high-performance environment in international shipping and maritime investment. Contact with high-impact commercial projects and senior stakeholders. Collaborative and supportive team culture with strong opportunities for professional development.
